Butterfly, Butterfly
by Kevin Adair
Butterfly, Butterfly,
Why is it you flutter by?
Flutter by, flutter by,
On your way into the sky.
There's something I would like to know,
Just before it's 'Off you go!'
In the air with just one leap,
What's this secret that you keep?
As you putter and you flutter,
Out beyond my bedroom shutter,
Just for me would you please mutter,
What have you to do with butter?
Dragonfly, Dragonfly,
Now you're off into the sky!
As I stroll along the beach,
You stay just beyond my reach.
Perching on a boat that floats
Out upon the lake so blue,
I can't help but wonder why
Your name is confusing too.
How your wings cut through the air!
So small and clear, they're barely there.
Landing lightly on my wagon,
You are the most dainty dragon.
Butterfly and Dragonfly,
Painting colors 'cross the sky.
Putting on a pretty show
High above their friends below.
Their shadows cause a moment's shade
On one who's leaping blade to blade.
Gleefully and unafraid,
Bouncing all about the glade.
Can you guess who it would be...
Jumping, jumping, happily?
Here's a bug whose name's more proper.
Indeed it is the green Grasshopper!
